2012 is the year of MicroModal®
The year 2012 is devoted to the MicroModal® fiber.
Heavenly soft luxury textiles are no longer just a dream. Thanks to Lenzing Modal® micro fibers, clothing which wraps the body in light-as-air fabrics has become a reality. Because of MicroModal®’s botanic origin fiber, it is extremely eco-friendly and is comparable
to natural silk in terms of its fineness. Long-staple cotton blended with MicroModal® results in textiles which are particularly luxurious: the fabric’s sheen, softness and naturalness are unparalleled.

The botanic towel
Lenzing Modal® leads to botanic products.
More than half of the wood used at Lenzing comes from Austria and the remainder from neighboring countries. The botanic origin of Lenzing Modal® is an important benefit for terry goods since sustainable materials are increasingly important to consumers. In
fact 89% of consumers in a recent survey stated that towels made with Lenzing Modal® fiber stay softer than 100% cotton towels even after repeated washing. Special colors stay intense and vibrant with Lenzing Modal®. Gradual fading or graying is no longer
an issue with Lenzing Modal® terry goods. |

Lenzing AG takes legal action against the violation of its Lyocell patents
Lenzing AG, the global market leader for man-made cellulose fibers and the world’s only large-scale industrial provider of Lyocell/TENCEL®
fibers, is taking legal action against the infringement of its Lyocell patents.
A preliminary injunction has been imposed on the Austrian engineering firm One-A Engineering Austria GmbH. In accordance with this, One-A is prohibited from instructing third parties or from helping them to use the Lyocell spinning technology which has been
patented by Lenzing and is thus protected by law. Lenzing owns process patents in which, after forming in the spinning device, the Lyocell spinning solution is released into a specially designed gap with a stream of gas or air. This results in the consistent
high quality of Lyocell fibers. These patent-protected production processes may not be used without Lenzing’s express approval. Similarly, any fibers manufactured in accordance with Lenzing’s patented process may not be used, offered for sale or sold without
Lenzing’s consent. Lenzing defends its patents diligently and responds vigorously against any and every infringement of its patent rights to ensure the continued quality its Lyocell fibers. |

Slow Fashion Award 12– the winners
The outstanding designs submitted presented the expert jury, which included Christina Kreuzwieser/Lenzing AG, with a real challenge.
After extensive deliberations, they unanimously selected the winners with the “Winning Designs”. Many important factors were considered in selecting the winner including the aesthetic quality, innovative character and emotional content of the designs. The functionality,
economic, sustainability and social aspects, and the production processes were also factored into the jury’s decision. After intense deliberation, the main prize in the Slow Fashion Award 12 was awarded to Christina Leitner from Austria. Additional prizes
were awarded to Cloed Baumgartner (Austria), Merja Seitsonen and Johanna Vainio (both of whom are from Finland). The Slow Fashion Award 12 was sponsored by Lenzing.

The edelweiss® effect
Lenzing Modal® edelweiss is the only Modal fiber to satisfy the highest environmental standards.
The persistent application of production integration at the Lenzing site in Austria in combination with innovative processes to reduce the plant’s environmental burden have resulted in the production of excess energy and fine chemicals from the wood. The Lenzing
pulp factory does not require any additional energy but is instead an important energy supplier for the entire Lenzing site. Plus, the thermal use of wood component parts is CO2-neutral. Lenzing is a pioneer in the field of wood-organic refineries. The processes
required for this are not commercially available and were developed by Lenzing scientists and engineers. |
